Upcoming, TBA - Physicians’ Day at the Legislature, from 8 am to 4 pm in the Hall of Flags. Originally scheduled for March 19th, postponed due to weather. Physicians’ Day at the Legislature is an important component of our grassroots legislative advocacy and provides an opportunity for Maine’s medical community to present information on current practice advances in all the medical specialties. Moreover, it is FUN for participating physicians to spend a day at the Legislature participating in the political process. Soon we will be preparing the agenda for the day and intentions are to include meetings with the legislative leadership, and the Governor, if he is available. We hope that this announcement allows you the time to work “Physicians’ Day at the Legislature” into your schedule. If you are interested and available to participate in the event, please register here:

Tuesday, June 11, 2013 - Spirituality in End-of-Life Care - the 27th Annual Thomas Nevola MD Symposium, Colby College, Waterville, Maine, 7:15 AM - 4 PM
As the American population continues to age and chronic illness increases, we may expect a greater focus on quality, person-centered end-of-life care. Care that embraces spirituality, drawing upon the deepest values and sacredness in people’s lives, can help patients find dignity and meaning as they live out their days.
Some of the most vital conversations at the end of life pertain to caregivers and family members as well as to patients, and can chart and enrich the lives of young and old alike. As Dr. Byock will point out, saying “Please forgive me,” “I forgive you,” “Thank you” and “I love you” can move people toward wholeness and healing throughout the life span.
The purpose of the 2013 Nevola Symposium is to cultivate attitudes and skills, for ourselves and others, that promote meaning and dignity in end-of-life settings. Download complete brochure, program, and registration information here.
