APA June Course of the Month – Addressing Substance Use Disorders in the Context of Sexual and Gender Diversity
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) populations face numerous health disparities, including disproportionately high rates of tobacco, alcohol, and drug use disorders. These disparities are due in-part to anti-LGBTQ stigma, prejudice, and discrimination. This course provides an overview of tobacco, alcohol, and drug use disparities in LGBTQ populations, including strategies for providing LGBTQ-affirming care. Presented by Petros Levounis, M.D., M.A., Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Faye Chao, M.D., Mount Sinai, Jeremy Kidd, M.D., MPH, Columbia University, New York State Psychiatric Institute, and Brian Hurley, M.D., MBA, DFASAM, UCLA, LA County.
