Matthew J. Davis, MD, DFAPA Achieves APA Distinguished Fellowship status
Matthew J. Davis, MD, DFAPA will be awarded the status of Distinguished Fellow by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) at the association’s upcoming annual meeting next spring and at the meeting of the Maine Association of Psychiatric Physician’s (MAPP) Spring Meeting in April 2021. Dr. Davis is the Clinical Director at Riverview Psychiatric Center (RPC) in Augusta, where he oversees all medical and clinical operations for Maine’s 92-bed state psychiatric hospital that treats patients on civil and forensic commitments and legal holds. He also oversees all clinical and medical operations at the RPC outpatient service which provides treatment for approximately 60 patients.

nd scholarly publications, volunteering in mental health and medical activities of social significance, and community involvement. Distinguished Fellow is the highest membership honor the APA bestows upon members. “Excellence, not mere competence, is the hallmark of an APA Distinguished Fellow,” sites the APA guidelines.
Dr. Davis is currently the President of MAPP and a member of its Membership Committee. He moved to Maine from New Hampshire in 2018 where he held a number of administrative and leadership positions – most recently as the Medical Director at Portsmouth Regional Hospital Behavioral Health Services. He was active in the New Hampshire Psychiatric Society (NHPS) and served as its Treasurer and Secretary before his move to Maine. Dr. Davis completed medical school at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2008 where he was an Alpha Omega Alpha member. He completed his psychiatric residency at Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard School of Medicine. Dr. Davis was instrumental in getting Riverview (RPC) recertified after a lapse of several years.
Dr. Davis is the father of one and he enjoys running, watching football, and astronomy.
