What’s New at the APA
- APA issued an apology for its past support of racism in psychiatry. The apology to Black, Indigenous and People of Color acknowledges past practices and events in psychiatry that contributed to racial inequality and expresses APA’s commitment to developing anti-racist policies that promote equity in mental health for all. You can read the full apology written by the Board of Trustees, as well as accompanying documents here.
- APA issued a statement condemning the violence that took place during the Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6. APA offered up resources for those impacted by the violence and urged for a peaceful transfer of power. You can read the statement and access the resources for dealing with traumatic events here.

February Course of the Month – Racism and Climate Change: Impacts on Communities of Color
The devastating impacts of global warming and associated environmental degradation are serious general health and mental health issues. Although all global populations will be affected, the impacts are not equally distributed. Communities of color are among the first and most profoundly impacted and are often the least able to cope, respond and recover. This course will address the connection between the unconscious embedded attitudes about race and current specific ways communities of color are impacted by the changes due to climate disruption.
